What is Blood Pressure?

Hypertension is also called high blood pressure and is a condition where one or both of your blood pressure values are elevated. When reading your blood pressure you will notice two numbers. The top and bottom numbers of your blood pressure measurement are called the systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure respectively.

Scientifically an individual is said to be hypertensive as a repeatedly elevated or high blood pressure, exceeding 140 over 90 mmHg — a systolic pressure above 140 with a diastolic pressure above 90.

What are the symptoms of blood pressure?
Hypertension can be without any symptoms.
Some symptoms like sweating, agitation, and dizziness could be apparent. However a powerful indicator of high blood pressure is headache.

Some common causes of blood pressure are:
1) Unhealthy lifestyles, stress, 
2) being overweight, 
3) unhealthy diet, too much of salt intake,   
4) diabetes 
5) genetic predisposition.

1)      Lifestyle modification is centered on weight loss, diet and exercise in treatment of high blood pressure
2)      Diet in Hypertension: Eating a healthy diet can be particularly effective at improving blood pressure .A healthy diet will also help you lose weight You should include lots of fruits, vegetables and whole grains and limit fatty and processed foods. Restrict amount   of salt in your diet should be reduced.
3)      Exercise in high blood pressure:  30 minutes of aerobic exercise, most days of the week. 

Some other precautions for reducing high blood pressure:

·         Relaxation techniques and meditation practices

4)      Medical Treatment and control of Hypertension:
 Your doctor will recommend antihypertensive regimes. Protocols for managing hypertensive cases also depend on various factors depending on age, any other underlying heart condition, risk factors and measurement. Accordingly your blood pressure will be monitored every 3 months.
